J: Excellent.  Out of gratitude, I spent about an hour at my prayer station at the foot of my bed today on my knees.

LR: Oh, my party animal friend.

RR: Hallelujah!  Give the Lord praise.  Jonathan, thank you so much for calling.  Wow!  Wow!

LR: I bet he’s having a party.

RR: Paige White, I want you to get ready to sing.  Right now, I tell you, there’s an anointing for people to get their knees healed. There are 14 people right now; God’s giving me a word of knowledge about 14 of you that got knee problems.  I want all of you to walk over and lay your hands on your television set.  I’ve got news, if God can heal Jonathan, God can heal your knees right now.  Lay your hands on my knees right now; because when I pray this prayer, there are 14 of you, 14 of you are going to get your knees healed tonight.

In the authority come on, Lindsay, lay your hand on my back right now in the authority of the name of Jesus, here comes the healing too.  And also there is a right shoulder, on the backside of your right shoulder; you’re getting healed right now.  In the authority of the name of Jesus, I speak to these knees.

And you thought your knee was too old to get healed.  In the authority of Jesus’ name, I speak to the pain in your knees.  I speak to the arthritis.  I command it right now to leave.  And, I’ll tell you, the power of God’s going into the knees of 14 people right now.  Whoever you are, you can begin to bend your knees.  You can begin to lift your knees.  You can begin to squat down on your knees.

You can begin to move sideways on your knees.  You can start running through your room.  God’s healing your knees right now.  You can examine yourself.  You feel the power of God going into your knees right now.  I want you to get up and call us at 918-495-7777.  Fourteen of you are getting healed right now.

RG: That’s right.  It says, “If you ought against any,” and that includes yourself.  Sometimes we’re holding things against ourselves and it keeps God’s blessings from coming into our lives.

RR: I just set my faith in agreement with everyone watching right now for you to forgive.  You think for a moment about that person. Now I don’t need to describe that person.  You know who they are. Sure you do.  Just like that the name came to your mind.

You know who they are.  I want to pray with you right now that you would forgive and release that person, as Marilyn said, and then just cast the devil out of that situation so that Satan won’t use them to torment you.  That’s what I hear you saying.  And I set my faith in agreement with you right now and I pray that you would say, “God, I forgive this person.”  Come on right now, say it with me.  God everybody here God, I forgive this person.  Now just quietly call out their name.

You know, nobody needs to hear you.  This isn’t a man thing.  This is a God thing.  Just call out their name.  Say, I forgive them. Now say this, I release them.  Say, I give them to God. Can you think of anyone better to give them to thank God?  I release them.  Now say this, Satan, I bind you and I cast the devil out of this situation, that this person shall not torment me again in the name of Jesus.  I think somebody ought to give praise to God.  People are being set free. People are being set free tonight.  Sue.

SUE: In 1993, Sandra in Wyoming, Michigan had a terrible fall.  She’s been in excruciating pain since that time.

RR: Four years.

SUE: You gave a word of knowledge and in this two-week time, she’s thrown away the cane and the walker, the scooter and she’s walking up and down stairs.  She’s just so happy.  She’s on the line.

RR: What’s her first name?

SUE: Sandra.

RR: Sandra, are you on the line?

S: Yes, I am.

RR: Sandra, you’re in Michigan?

S: Yes, and I just moved up from Florida, which is where the accident had taken place.

RR: And it happened in 1993?

S: Yes, it was.

RR: And you’ve had this pain now for four years?

S: Yes, to the point that I guess if I was in Michigan, I’d probably use Kavorkian for that’s how bad.  I would beg people to it were terrible.

RR: Robin and Marilyn, I was telling you, you know, before we started tonight that God is doing something different in our lives. Every time I put my hands up like this and tell people to come and lay their hands on my hands, something begins to happen. Even as I’m doing it right now there is this heat, there’s this anointing that comes through my hands.  And I was studying that scripture today about God working through the hands of the apostle.

RG: Exactly right.

RR: This is the Hour of Healing.  And I don’t mean that in the sense of this is just 60 minutes of healing.  No, no, no.  This is God’s time.

SUE JESTER: Yes, I do.  In Alpharetta, Georgia, we have a lady named Christine, were in a car accident in September and broke both of her shoulders.

RR: Excuse me.  Pain on the lower side excuse me, the middle of the left side of your back is leaving you now.  I mean the pain is going right now.  Even as Sue is giving this testimony, the pain in your back right here is leaving in Jesus’ name.  Come on, lift your hands and give God praise.  The healing power of God is alive right now, and you can receive your healing in the authority of Jesus’ name.  I speak to your back and command it to be made whole in Jesus’ name.  Get up and call us and let us know what God is doing.  Sorry, Sue.

SJ: That’s God.

RR: When He interrupts, I’ve got to obey.

SJ: That’s right.  She rebroke her left shoulder…

LR: Oh, my word.

RR: Rebroke it.

SJ: She was

RR: after the accident in September.

SJ: Yes, yes.

LR: rebroke it?

SJ: And then she had another problem, and her left shoulder was broken again.  She had two doctors tell her that she had to have surgery.  They took her into the operating room, and when she came out, they told her, “You’re healed,” after she had watched you and claimed the word of knowledge.

RR: Is she on the phone?

SJ: She’s on the phone.

RR: Hello, Christine.

CHRISTINE: Hello.

RR: How are you tonight?

CHRISTINE: Fine.  How are you?

RR: I’m just fine.  Tell me, Christine, what exactly happened in September, and what happened when we prayed on this program?

CHRISTINE: I was in a horrible car accident in September and had several injuries, but the worst injuries were the broken shoulders.  And I rebroke my shoulder.  And I was watching you one night, and you pointed to a bone in your left shoulder, and I prayed and prayed, and cried and prayed.  And I found out I needed surgery, went in, they knocked me out and everything, took me into the OR, and I woke up an hour later and they said they had to give me another medication to wake me up because I didn’t have to have the surgery.  I was healed.

LR: Hallelujah.

RR: Healed?

CHRISTINE: My arm is not broke.

LR: Yay!  Thank God.

RR: Well, what did you feel when we prayed on the program?

CHRISTINE: I didn’t feel anything.  It just must not have been the time. God must have healed me somewhere between rolling from getting ready for the surgery into the surgery, but I prayed when they put the thing over my nose, and I said, “Please, God, just be with me through this operation.”  And I woke up an hour later and I was healed.

RR: You mean I prayed for your shoulder on the program

CHRISTINE: You pointed to it.

RR: and then you went to surgery

CHRISTINE: You pointed to the exact spot that the bone was broke.  It was sticking out of my arm.  You pointed to it.

RR: I pointed to it.

CHRISTINE: Right.

RR: How is the shoulder tonight?

CHRISTINE: It’s a little sore, but it’s not broke.

LR: Pray for the soreness.

RR: for us.  We thank you.  We appreciate your prayers.  We give thanks to God for you who are praying for this ministry, praying for ORU, praying for all that we are doing for God.  Lindsay, one other word of knowledge.  Someone who has a tremendous problem with your esophagus, esophagus backup, you’re being healed right now by the power of God.  It’s like there’s just a burst of healing going through your chest.

LR: Hallelujah.

RR: right now in Jesus’ name, and you’re being healed.  Whoever you are, examine yourself.  Get up and call us and let us know what He’s doing.

LR: Several police officers or families of police officers

RR: Oh, we’re still getting calls from them.

LR: tons of calls coming in and

RR: From last night.

LR: Yes.  If you would like to send that name of a loved one or if you are a police officer and would like us to continue praying. One lady sent in from Indiana and said three brothers are all policemen and gave us the names of all three brothers.

RR: Last night I asked those who are in law enforcement or have a loved one in law enforcement to call and let us know their names so that we can put a prayer covering over them and believe for their safety.

LR: Yes.

RR: If you’d like to continue to do that, we’ll continue to pray

LR: This said his brother and son.

RR: and believe God for a miracle.  Many, many calls coming like that.  Other testimonies, other prayer requests coming.  I’m expecting the healing power of God to flow in your life from the crown of your head to the soles of your feet. RR:  The Last Train North, has been read all across this nation and literally around the world, and now you’re being called on to travel all over the world to speak.  Haven’t you just come from the Mississippi.

CT: Just from.

RR: Humanities

CT: Yeah, in Jackson, Mississippi, they celebrated the 25^th anniversary of the Mississippi Humanities Council, and that to me was a real move of God as it relates to me as a writer because twenty-five years ago I probably would not have been invited to give that keynote address.  But it shows you exactly what God does, how He does it, when we let Him do it.

RR: What is this book all about, Eight Habits of the Heart?

CT: Well, Richard, I was trying to think, how could I explain this to this wonderful audience that you have.  But in the 133rd Psalm, David said, “How good and pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in unity.” Now that’s a place.  What does it take to get to that place?  The Eight Habits of the Heart, which are nurturing attitude, responsibility, dependability, friendship, brotherhood, high expectations, courage, and hope when those eight ideals are practiced daily by individuals such as ourselves, we will find that place that David talked about, that place of unity and peace where brethren dwell together.

RR: Well, you’re also talking about the possibility of race relation healings.

CT: You can’t have unity, you know. You can’t have all that God wants you to have unless you’re thinking about, “How can I share that with my brother?” whomever that brother or sister might be.

RR: I noticed on the news this morning that today is the 40^th anniversary of the desegregation of Central High School in Little Rock, Arkansas, and I understand President Clinton has been in Arkansas today marking that historic event.  What word do you have to say …  With what you went through as a child and, of course, you’ve written about it extensively, you’ve talked about it all over this campus a number of times and literally all over the world, and now here you are talking about relationships and how people can be one.  And Jesus said that we all might come into the unity, that we might come into harmony and unity.  What word do you have to people who are having difficulty with relationships?

He is the guitarist and arranger for the country and western singing group called The Judds.  I’ve seen them many times on television.  He has quite a remarkable testimony.  But before he and I share that testimony with you, I want him to take his guitar and minister the gospel to you in song.  So right now I want you to join me in welcoming the man who is the guitarist and who is the arranger for The Judds.  His name is Don Potter.  God richly bless you, Don, as you minister and as you sing the gospel.  Here he is.

SPKM DON POTTER When I first got saved I assumed this was really only an assumption on my part that I would immediately go full-time Christian music and run away from the world and never be in the world again and never have to face all the people I knew in the world, because it was many.  And so I made one Christian album on Murray Records and I’ve just finished my second one, as a matter of fact.  But I assumed that that would be, “O.K., I’m ready for the Christian music business.  Thank you.”  And it changed from there.  The Lord said, “No, I’ve got something better not better than that, I don’t mean that.

That’s the wrong term, but I have something that I want you to stay in.  I’ve trained you to be in that business, I want you to stay there.  And that’s when I first met the producer of The Judds and he asked me to come to their house one afternoon when they were very, very first starting.  He said, “This mother and daughter, I love the way they sound.  I just want to get some arrangements and try to make a demo.”  And I got into their house; meanwhile, still carpentering, and stood there with them and began to play.  And they decided somewhere, by God’s grace, that I was very important to their sound.  And I thought, golly, when was the last time an act said, you are important to our sound?  And then the record company heard the first demos that we did and their first reaction was, that’s very important to your sound.  That little guitar thing is very important to your sound.

And suddenly I got swept up into this thing and never even expected it, quite frankly.  I really expected to do a demo and go home, is pretty much what would be the normal.  And the Lord began to lift me up in their eyes, is really what it was.  I’d love to say it was because I’m so handsome, but it was the Lord really lifted me up in their eyes so that I wouldn’t say I became a spiritual father, but in some ways it was like a spiritual father because the Lord had really put a burning desire in my heart to talk about the Lord with them.  I just couldn’t shut up after I first got with them.  And after a year of being with them, we were on the road.  I worked with them on the road.  And one night the daughter, Winona, who is a sweet, tender girl.

SPRR RICHARD ROBERTS She’s the lead singer.

SPKM DON POTTER She’s the lead singer.  Just came to me on the bus and she said, “I just need to know more about this Lord that you serve.”  And I led her to the Lord and she’s a blessing, you know.

SPRR RICHARD ROBERTS Well, I want you to do something for me, Don.  I want you to do two things, number one; I want you to greet The Judds for me.  I’ve never met them.  I’ve seen them many times.  I’ve seen them win awards and I’ve always enjoyed their music.  I want you to greet them for me and give them an invitation some time to come on this program and just sing and enjoy themselves.  And the second thing is, I want you to sing and play another song.  Give him a welcome.  Here’s Don Potter. SPKM DON POTTER Well, uniquely, kind of one of the pit bottoms of it is one morning, early in the morning I was laying in bed sort of convulsing from overdoing it all night and beginning to lose all semblance of sanity. And my wife looked me in the face and said, “I’m leaving a person who wants to kill himself.”  And it was the first real shock I ever had. It was sort of like and I could barely talk because I was so strung out and I guess it was sort of the thing of the shocking realization, you know, drugs are very subtle.  They come on very quietly.  And before you know it, you’re acting like something you think is cool.  I don’t know how to put that into clear terms, but when I’m high, you know, I’m this thing that I’ve never been before and everyone thinks  I’m so cool like this.  And it’s like that demon that comes around behind you and gets hold of you and starts convincing you that you are something that you’re not, of course.  Your ultra ego begins to take place and you step into an area that is just totally unrelated to life itself.  The Lord began really at that time, I had a, I had a 92-year-old grandmother, Spirit-filled, who has prayed for me for 30 years.  And

SPRR RICHARD ROBERTS Thank God for grandmothers.

SPKM DON POTTER And that is what saved my life.  Yeah.

SPRR RICHARD ROBERTS Thank God for grandmothers.

SPKM DON POTTER And I have an aunt and uncle who I spent many years when my parents had split up and that kind of thing, and when I was younger my uncle who I stayed with, my grandmother and aunt and uncle, had recognized that at about six or seven years old that the Lord had put a gift of music inside and he lifted me up before the Lord.  He prayed that I would give this gift back to the Lord and it would be to glorify Him. I proceeded to spend the next 30 years trying to do it my own way and being in the music business, which I have for that many years, and the, I’ve been real close a lot of times, real close to becoming whatever the words are, famous, I guess is the only word I can think of now, but the Lord always pulled it short, always held it up, always kept it from being something that I want to be this, I want to be that and money was spent and everyone was happy and suddenly it fell apart.  And there’s been countless times and when I finally came to the end of myself and the drug problems and the Lord came into my life.  He moved like only He can move. I mean, I’d love to tell you it through my intelligence, but it certainly was not.  It was through my total need.

SPRR RICHARD ROBERTS Through your desperation.

SPKM DON POTTER Through my desperation to need Him.  Then we went through a period of two years really of laying music down, which was like pulling my heart out of my body.  But I did.

SPRR RICHARD ROBERTS You actually gave it up.

SPKM DON POTTER Oh, yeah.  I had, I was a carpenter when I first got to Tennessee, you know, the Lord had used; I call it the carrot theory.  He had guided me to Tennessee through all kinds of, well, I’ll be this and then I’ll get this and I’ll sign with this company and I’ll sign with that company and everything. I’ll be just wonderful and as soon as I got there, that disappeared and I was literally thrown into the arms of the body of Christ at that time.  And we had nothing, no money and no job, and I couldn’t get a job right away.  And the Lord had also gifted me with carpentry, which I really enjoy.  And He said, “You’ve got a job.  You know how to work.”  And I spent the next two years as a carpenter remodeling buildings out of music row, of all the places.

And it not only adjusted I shouldn’t say it’s adjusted.  I mean, I hate to tell you I think I’m even humble by a long shot, but it really had an awful lot to do with bringing me to a realization that the gift, any gift that God gives you is a beautiful thing and it is a gift.  You know, I’d love to say I made it up or I worked very hard and I’m now a great musician because I’ve worked hard, because I’m not, that’s not true.  God has anointed it.  And I’ve played in front of people when He wasn’t there and they didn’t like it.  And when He’s there, they love it.

SPRR RICHARD ROBERTS Bless you, Don.  My orchestra sure does like it.  Give them a good handclap.  Did you start, did you start playing guitar when you were a kid or did you just pick this up last week?

SPKM DON POTTER I was pretty young.  I failed to tell you earlier that I use to….and that’s how I basically….and then The Judds.  It was an interesting situation how that even came about. The Lord was working very strong in my life at that time.  I had been only saved about five years.  I’d been very deep in drugs and all of that.

SPRR RICHARD ROBERTS You came out of the drug culture too then?   I see.
