Know Who Your Enemy Is

It’s important to know who your enemy is and when to go into battle.  David made his plans to attack the Amalekites carefully, striking the enemy at just the right time.  (See I Samuel 30:11-20.)

Now, of course, we don’t fight our battles with guns, spears, and bows and arrows as David did.  Ours is a different kind of battle.  Christianity is a spiritual war.  God and the devil are fighting, and we’re caught in between.  So when problems hit us, it’s really no person’s fault.  It’s the devil fighting against us.  If we can ever understand that it’s the devil who’s fighting us and not people, then we won’t be so hard on those around us.

David and his men found the enemy, and they fought all night and all the next day.  And verse 19 says, David recovered all!

What weapons of warfare can you use against the devil?

  • Your faith.  One of your greatest weapons is to know that God loves you and He is going to take care of things.
  • Prayer.  The devil doesn’t like it when you talk to God because prayer is an effective weapon against him.
  • The Word of God.  God’s Word is full of strength and power.
  • The Name of Jesus.  Before Jesus went back to heaven, He gave us His name to use in prayer.  He said, “Whatever you ask the Father in My name He will give you” (John 16:23 NKJV).
  • The word of your testimony.  Another great weapon you can use is your testimony.  Revelation 12:17 says we overcome by the blood of Jesus and the word of our testimony.

We know the enemy, we have the weapons, and we now have the power to attack!

Feelings vs. Faith

Everyone has experienced discouragement.  You may have wondered if being a Christian means that you should feel wonderful all the time.  But let me tell you that Christians don’t live by feelings!  The Bible teaches that the just shall live by faith (Romans 1:17).  Feelings are fickle—they can change all the time and they will betray you.  Your mood may fluctuate with the weather, your environment, your health, or your circumstances.  I cannot say that just because you’re a Christian you’re going to feel wonderful all the time.

However, Jesus has promised you His joy!  John 15:11 says These things have I spoken unto you, that my joy might remain in you, and that your joy might be full.  His joy is not a fleeting, transitory emotion that the world calls happiness or fun.  The joy of the Lord is a deep, enduring assurance that provides you with a contentment that doesn’t fade in the midst of trying circumstances or struggles.

That’s because true Christian joy is based on faith.  Faith stands up to rugged everyday living.  No one is immune from troubles, from financial or physical reverses; but you can have confidence that even though troubles come, they can never go beyond the control of God.

Deuteronomy 33:27 says, The eternal God is thy refuge, and underneath are the everlasting arms: and he shall thrust out the enemy from before thee; and shall say, Destroy them.  You can have a sustaining joy in knowing that God is your refuge in any time of trouble, and His everlasting arms are beneath you!

A ‘Poverty Mentality’ Robs You of God’s Promises!

Some of the world’s wealthiest people are poor.  They have plenty of money, but they have a “poverty mentality.”  They are so afraid they’re going to lose their wealth that they don’t enjoy what they have.  They don’t know that Psalm 35:27 says that God takes pleasure in the prosperity and increase of His people.

Once I was preaching at a brand-new church in a Tulsa suburb.  The congregation took up a Seed-Faith offering for Oral Roberts University, aiming their seed at whatever need they had in their lives.  At the most there were fifty people there that day, but when they took up the offering, it totaled $4,000!  I prayed over the offering, and along with them I believed God for a miracle for each person.

Two weeks later they began updating me on their miracles:  two people had received promotions with salary increases of $20,000 per year . . . some had been given large hourly wage increases . . . several had received checks they were not expecting . . . one received a settlement that had been going on for years . . . two others received words about babies . . . the congregation had given their pastor a raise.  They were reaping their harvest!

Whatever it is you are lacking, God wants to give you increase in that area.  There shall be seedtime and harvest, the Bible tells us in Genesis 8:22, and the harvest is always larger than the seed!  I believe the day is coming when Christians will get a revelation and say, “Wait a minute!  I’m supposed to be blessed in Jesus’ Name!”  They will sow their seeds of faith to God, believing that He will multiply their seeds into an abundant harvest!

In the name of Jesus

And I have had four kids and I gained weight on all my pregnancies, which you should.  You know, I mean, you have nine months to make a healthy baby.  And my body went right back down.  And, see, the truth is that God doesn’t even see us.  We’re hidden in Christ.  And the things that the world tries to get us to look at are not the things He looks at.

RR: Well, Lisa, the reason I asked you to give this testimony tonight is because I sense in my spirit that there are a lot of people that are watching tonight that are suffering in this area of their life.  Maybe it’s anorexia or bulimia or it’s some other type of disorder, eating disorder or other type of disorder.  And you are a living testimony of what God did and obviously is still doing, because you’re completely delivered from it now.  A marriage and four children later, and you obviously have had a great miracle.

God has healed your metabolism.  He’s healed your habits, your food habits.  He’s healed you all the way over.  And I think that if you would pray that there would be people who would receive a healing in that area of their lives tonight.  I’d like you to just take your freedom and pray.

L: I would love to do that.  Father, I just thank You right now. You know who you are and you know what was said to you that made you think that you are what you weigh.  But you’re not what you weigh.  You’re not what you have and you’re not what you look like and you’re not even who you see.  You are somebody so precious and so valuable.  And right now I break the words and I break the curses that have been spoken over you.  I break the chains of bondage that caused you to reduce yourself to a number on a scale.

And in the name of Jesus, Father, I thank You that the stronghold of anorexia and bulimia is broken off of the lives of so many women, in the name of Jesus.  Lord, You said that You abhor an unjust scale.  Lord, I thank You that You would establish a righteous measure for these women.  Lord, I thank You that You would establish them in righteousness and joy and peace.  And I come against that spirit that would try to get them to destroy themselves, in the name of Jesus.

The Healing Compassion

23 May, 2013 (10:14) | Richard Roberts | By: admin

And all of them, virtually all of them, whether they’re preachers or not, have a healing compassion in their heart.  And I thank God for Oral Roberts University.  It’s a wonderful academic institution with bachelors and masters and doctors’ degrees.  And I’m very proud that God chose you, my son, to be the president, the second president, and the second first lady after the first lady, Evelyn.

LR: A good example.

OR: I’m very proud of you, Richard and Lindsay.  I have complete confidence in you that ORU will remain the same, on the same foundation, the same honor code, the same healing emphasis, the same excellence of higher education, and educating the children of our people who believe and who have prayed for a university that was first-class all the way, and now they have Oral Roberts University.

RR: Stand over here by Lindsay, Lester.

OR: Let me say just one word to the thousands and hundreds of thousands of Partners, hundreds of thousands of Partners

RR: Come in here, Lindsay.

OR: who have made this possible?  Without you it could not have been built.  We spent over $400 million to build this whole enterprise here for the glory of God.  You provided that, and you’re providing the extra that it takes to keep it going.

RR: That’s right.

OR: Because the students can never pay as much as it takes to operate.  And I thank every Partner, every friend, whether you sent one gift or ten gifts or a hundred gifts, or if you’re still doing it.  Thank you in Christ’s name and God will multiply your seed back.

RR: Now Dad and Mother and Lindsay, I want one of our currently enrolled students to join us tonight in prayer as we close.

OR: Oh, that’s Lester Sumrall’s grandson.

RR: This is Dr. Lester Sumrall’s grandson

OR: Who was one of my best friends?

RR: Lester, who is a currently enrolled student at

OR: One of my best friends

OR: Dr. Lester Sumrall.

RR: We have lots of outstanding ministers’ children and grandchildren who have enrolled at ORU and have graduated and many who are students.  He and his cousin His cousin is on our basketball team.  And I want him to stand with us as we close tonight in prayer.

OR: This is the preacher boy.

LR: Yes.

OR: This is the one. Let me touch you.  Jesus, just double your healing power to flow through his ministry, the double portion of his grandfather, Lester Sumrall, and give him some of my portion in Jesus’ name.  Amen.

ER: Halleluiah.  Praise God.  Glory.  Halleluiah.

RR: Father, in the authority of the name of Jesus, we bless you and thank You for all that has been accomplished in this program.  We thank you for your healing touch in people’s lives tonight.  We lay our hands on the requests of everyone who has called in the Abundant Life Prayer Group just since we went on the air tonight. We lay our hands on them and we command the devil to take his hands off your life. Thank You, Father.  There are three generations of healing ministry right here.  There is your generation, there is my generation, there’s Lester’s generation, all of us joining together in the authority of the name of Jesus, believing for the power of God to come alive in your life.
